Academy seeks technology mentors
With a new group of Madison public high school students entering the campus Information Technology Academy, faculty and staff members are needed to serve as volunteer mentors.
Since it first began enrolling students in 2000, ITA has provided training and access to technology for students of color and economically disadvantaged students.
Three men and five women are needed to pair with students to serve as role models, guides and friends. The students are ninth- and 10th-graders taking part in four years of pre-college technology training and academic preparation for attending UW–Madison.
ITA mentors are not expected to be technology experts, but they should care about youth, be willing to listen and have some scheduling flexibility in order to meet with a student two to four hours per month.
