Faculty to flip at SLIS brunch

February 10, 2004

It is the School of Library and Information Studies‘ answer to Mardi Gras: the annual Faculty Flipped Pancake Brunch, this year on (Fat) Tuesday, Feb. 24.

For the last 15 or so years, SLIS faculty and staff have donned festive costumes — or at least, decorative aprons — to serve juice, coffee and, naturally, pancakes.

According to SLIS adviser Barbara Arnold, the event is a way for faculty and staff to do something fun for students and colleagues. “A former faculty member started it here as a challenge from her old school (the University of Illinois-Urbana/ Champaign). The evidence that we really had done it would be a pancake mailed to UIUC,” Arnold says.

The gala will begin at 11:30 a.m. and run until about 2 p.m. in 4207 Helen C. White Hall. Information: 263-2904, bjarnold@wisc.edu.
