Program explores cultures, technology, disciplines
Beginning with a pair of concerts in collaboration with artists from Chicago and the Caribbean, the Dance Program will present performances laced with interactive technology works and diverse offerings from faculty, staff, students and guests throughout the semester:
- “Madison-Chicago,” Jin-Wen Yu Dance, Friday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 14, at 5 p.m. Yu, an associate professor of dance, will field four works and will be joined by Chicago’s Hedwig Dance Company. For more information, call 262-1640 or visit http://www.jin-wenyudance.org.
- “Celebrating the Word through Dance, Poetry and Caribbean Rhythms,” Saturday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. Featuring Afro-Caribbean choreographer Anna Gonzales and steel drummer Jeff Narell. Ticket information at the Wisconsin Union Theater Box Office, 262-2201.
- “Painkillers,” Thursday-Saturday, March 4-6, 8 p.m. Li Chiao-Ping Dance addresses how the human spirit deals with pain and loss. More information: 263-5735, mgr@lichiaopingdance.org, http://www.lichiaopingdance.org.
- Festival of Interarts and Technology, Friday, April 2, 6 p.m. Student performance and video pieces, plus multimedia, interactive and visual art exhibits. Free and open to the public.
- “Spring Concert,” Thursday-Saturday, April 22-24, 8 p.m. Faculty, staff, students and guest artists will perform. Information: 262-1691.
The Dance Program also will present its first Somatics Arts Festival, Thursday-Saturday, March 25-27. Faculty, staff and guests will lecture and offer workshops on mind-body education.
