January 26, 2004 By

To help accommodate the thousands of visitors expected to attend Kites on Ice at the Memorial Union on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 7-8, UW Transportation Services will provide free public parking in many lots on the UW–Madison campus during both days.

Parking will be available at lots 3, 4, 9, 10, 20, 25, 26, 32, 34, 36 – 39, 40, 47, 51, 57-60, 62, 64 and 85. Lot 1 at the Memorial Union will NOT be open to the public during the event.

At the Helen C. White Hall, Grainger Hall and Fluno Center parking ramps (areas 6, 7 and 83), booth attendants will sell parking on a space-available basis. Cost will range from $2 to $3.50. Area 46 (Southeast ramp) will have metered parking available on Saturday. The entire ramp, including the gated area, will be free and open to the public on Sunday.

Kites on Ice organizers will provide free shuttle-bus service between Lot 60 and the Memorial Union. Buses will run approximately every 10 minutes from 9:30 a.m. until after the fireworks on Saturday evening, and from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

A printable parking map (PDF) is available online.

Visitors should also note the following:

  • North Lake Street between Langdon Street and Lake Mendota will be closed to traffic during the event.
  • The Howard Temin Lakeshore Path currently is closed between Marsh Lane (just east of Lot 60) and the Limnology Building, making it inaccessible as a pedestrian and bicycle route from the west side of campus to the Memorial Union.
