Nursing to boost enrollment
The School of Nursing will admit for fall 2004 another 20 undergraduate students on the Madison campus and 14 at its western campus at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
“Our pool of applicants to pre-nursing programs has grown in both size and quality in the last five years,” says School of Nursing Dean Katharyn May. “At the same time, the demands of our health-care system are becoming much more complex, and there is intense need for nurses with baccalaureate degrees to manage the care of these more complicated patients.”
The boost will increase the number of undergraduates admitted next fall in nursing from 110 to 130 students in Madison and from eight to 14 at the La Crosse campus. The school plans to hire faculty to accommodate the boost in enrollment.
The initiative will be funded by a reallocation of general-purpose revenue by UW–Madison, as state funding to UW has been significantly decreased this biennium.
