Campus Halloween events, activities

Here is a summary of some of the events and activities that are taking place on campus in celebration of Halloween. All events are free unless otherwise noted.

  • Halloween Service Series: The Wisconsin Union’s Community Service Committee is providing a variety of volunteer opportunities for students to become involved in the community this Halloween season. Contact: Anna Becker, communityservice@wisc.edu, (608) 215-1153.

Wednesday, Oct. 29

  • Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat: WISPIRG will be collect food and clothing donations for The Salvation Army and Second Harvest Food Shelf in campus-area neighborhoods and in University Housing. Contact: Maggie Olson, mmolson6@wisc.edu, (608) 213-3909.

Thursday, Oct. 30

  • Trick or Treat With the Greeks: The UW–Madison Greek community will host an opportunity for area children to experience a fun and safe Halloween on campus, from 4-6 p.m. in various locations along Langdon Street.

    The event is organized by the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association, and features activities such as face painting, mini-pumpkin painting, cookie decorating, games, storytelling and a haunted house. Fraternity and sorority members will escort the costumed children between houses, create a fun-filled atmosphere and supervise each activity.

    Buses will bring more than 300 Madison-area children from the Boys and Girls Clubs, The Salvation Army and other non-profit after-school children’s programs to campus to participate. All proceeds from Greek community fund-raising activities for Halloween will be donated to participating community centers. Contact: Ed Mirecki, (608) 263-4597.

  • Ballroom Dance/World Beat Costume Party: Two hours of ballroom dancing followed by three hours of world beat music. Don’t forget to wear your costume. Memorial Union’s Great Hall, 8 p.m.-1 a.m. Contact: Colleen Pricco, cepricco@wisc.edu, (608) 264-1819.

Friday, Oct. 31

  • Kids Day at the Kohl: Kids of all ages will get their Halloween celebration off to a great start at the UW Athletic Department’s free Kids Day at the Kohl from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Kohl Center. The event offers an opportunity to meet student athletes and coaches from varsity sports teams and participate in interactive exhibits. All attendees are encouraged to support the Wisconsin Student-Athlete Advisory Board’s food drive by bringing a non-perishable donation to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank.   • Rathskeller Music Costume Party: Bands including “If Then Else”(electronica) and “This is the End” (reggae rock) will begin at 7 p.m. Contact: Susan Dibbell, smvandeh@wisc.edu, (608) 263-4009.
  • Arch Gaming Night: A video-game tournament for fans of “Counter Strike,” “HALO,” “WarCraft III: Frozen Throne” and “Star Craft: Brood War” will be held 7 p.m.-midnight at ARCH@Gordon Commons (under Pop’s Club).   • Recreational Sports: The SERF, Natatorium and Shell will all be open until 1 a.m.
  • Starlight Cinema Halloween Special: “Cannibal Holocaust,” 9 p.m., Play Circle Theater, Memorial Union.
  • Scary Karaoke: Games Room, Union South, 9 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 1

  • Radioactive Halloween Party & Costume Contest: Unlimited pool, bowling, table tennis and popcorn for $5 per person. 8 p.m.-2 a.m., Games Room, Union South. Contact Bob Wright, rcwright@wisc.edu, (608) 263-5181.
