Call for Pre-Proposals in International Studies
The Office of International Studies and Programs is seeking pre-proposals for New Research Initiatives in International Studies. Initiatives may build on existing International Institute research circles or other faculty research projects, or they may be new. The New Research Initiatives will bring together scholars from several disciplines working on broad thematic issues.

Deadline for pre-proposals is Monday, Oct. 27. Three to four grants between $25,000 to $50,000 per initiative will be awarded for use during a period of two to three years. Creative Arts Awards
The Arts Institute is accepting applications and nominations for the faculty research, faculty and staff outreach and graduate student achievement awards. Interdisciplinary Arts Residency
The Arts Institute is accepting nominations for the Interdisciplinary Arts Residency Program for residencies beginning in 2004-05 and after. Staff Child-Care Scholarship
Four recipients will be selected by the University Child Care Committee subcommittee to each receive a $500 award to reimburse child-care costs of regulated providers. Scholarships are given to currently employed permanent classified employees. Applications should be submitted to the Office of Campus Child Care, 611 Eagle Heights, Room 148, by Saturday, Nov. 1. Individuals interested in learning more about how this program is funded should contact Connie Wilson, clwilson@bascom.wisc.edu.

Waisman Center Language Research Needs Participants
The Waisman Center is seeking individuals with cognitive disabilities that meet the following criteria: between the ages of 12 and 20, with a mild to moderate cognitive disability, whose cognitive disability is of unknown origin, not associated with Down syndrome, autistic spectrum disorder, fragile X syndrome, cerebral palsy or fetal alcohol syndrome; and who use spoken English to communicate.

Participation will involve one two-to-three hour visit to the Waisman Center, Monday through Saturday. During the visit individuals will participate in activities that explore vocabulary, language, storytelling, memory and problem-solving. Families are paid $30 for their participation. Caregivers Assessment Survey
The Center for Health Systems Research and Analysis is conducting a research study of family caregiver needs during the course of cancer illness. Results will help develop a non-commercial, university-based computer information and support system for caregivers of people with advanced cancer. Individuals 18 or older who are or were the main person assisting in care and support of a loved one with cancer can participate. A one-time mailed survey is involved, which takes less than one hour to complete. Participants receive a reimbursement of $20. Campuswide TA Awards
The deadline for nominations for the campuswide Teaching Assistant Awards is Monday, Nov. 3. These awards recognize excellence, innovation and exceptional service on the part of TAs. The College of Letters and Science, with additional support from the Graduate School, administers the selection process, but TAs in all schools and colleges are eligible. Radfest 2004 Call for Proposals
The Havens Center is accepting proposals for workshops and panels for RadFest 2004: Midwest Social Forum, June 4-6, an annual weekend conference organized by the A.E. Havens Center for the Study of Social Structure and Social Change.

RadFest enables progressive activists and academics to come together to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern, strengthen networks, and devise strategies for progressive social, economic, and political change.
