Terrace Chairs to hit the town
The Wisconsin Union’s “Terrace Chairs on the Town,” a centerpiece of Memorial Union’s 75th anniversary celebration, features 13 oversized Terrace chairs decorated by Madison area artists. By early October, the chairs will be displayed in campus and city locations, where they will remain until late spring 2004. Then, all the chairs will be brought to the Memorial Union Terrace and auctioned off. The 13 chairs, their artists and locations:
- “Spiralicious,” by Heidi Dyas McBeth and Kate Hagen; mosaic with jewels, Kohl Center.
- “Ars Gratia Artis,” by Kevin Hayes; silver with black calligraphy, UW Foundation.
- “Quercus,” by Amanda M. Jordan; metal leaves wrap the frame and glass acorns hang from branches, Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
- “Sweet Treat,” by Shana LaFore; a gigantic ice cream cone, East Towne Mall.
- “One Size Fits All,” by Jean Maddocks; human shapes intertwine with ivy to represent unity and diversity, Dane County Regional Airport.
- “Postcards from the Terrace,” by Jeff Miller; Terrace photographs shape a collage, Memorial Union.
- “Bascom Wildlife,” by Jeanne Morledge; a pink flamingo forms a windsock, Bascom Hill.
- “A Night at the Union,” by Michael Roberts; colorful toys, Wisconsin Alumni Association.
- “Kiwi Kathedra,” by Stephanie Ward; pieces resemble a kiwi, Hilldale Shopping Center.
- “Gilded Leaves,” by Thomas “Bud” Skupniewitz; metal leafing resembles the changing leaves, Monona Terrace.
- “Live at the Memorial Union!” by James Bourne; a creature sits proudly with a guitar and drums at its side, Lisa Link Peace Park.
- “Chair-ished Memories,” by Joseph M. Schlough; leaves with 75 significant things about the Union, Union South.
- “The Classic,” classic orange oversized chair, Henry Vilas Zoo and Memorial Union Building Association, Henry Vilas Zoo.
