Official Badger Bowl Tour headed to the Rose Bowl

Limited number of travel packages available

The NCAA announced today that the Wisconsin Badgers will travel to Pasadena, California, to play the Oregon Ducks in the 106th Rose Bowl Game, presented by Northwestern Mutual, on January 1. The Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) invites fans to join the Official Badger Bowl Tour.

Travel packages include air and land options, hotel accommodations, welcome reception, motor coach transfers, and the BADGER HUDDLE tailgate: the only pregame party that boasts appearances by Bucky Badger, the UW Spirit Squad, the UW Marching Band, and other special guests, along with food, beverages, and entertainment. Donors to Wisconsin Athletics and football season-ticket holders should request bowl tickets through the UW Department of Athletics. Please make your request by 12 p.m. Central Time on Monday, December 9. For more information, visit uwbowlcentral.com.

“Congratulations to Coach Chryst, his staff, and the student-athletes for making the UW’s 18th-straight bowl-game appearance,” said Sarah Schutt, chief alumni officer and executive director of the Wisconsin Alumni Association. “WAA is proud to host the official Rose Bowl tour and see this Badger team take the field in the granddaddy of all college bowl games.”

The 2020 Rose Bowl features a traditional matchup of teams from the Big Ten and the Pac-12. The first Tournament of Roses football game, which was the first post-season football game in the nation, was played at Tournament Park on January 1, 1902.

This will be Wisconsin’s 10th appearance in the Rose Bowl. The Badgers made their first bowl appearance in school history at the 1953 Rose Bowl Game against USC. The first time the Badgers scored any points in a bowl game would have to wait until their second Rose Bowl appearance: a 44–8 loss to the Washington Huskies on January 1, 1960.

The first bowl matchup between #1 (USC) and #2 (Wisconsin) in college football history resulted in a Rose Bowl classic. In the game, played on January 1, 1963, the Badgers staged a legendary fourth-quarter comeback that came up just short: they lost 42–37. Wisconsin earned its first Rose Bowl victory on January 1, 1994: a 21–16 thriller over UCLA.

Here are some other Rose Bowl fun facts:

  • With a 38–31 win over UCLA on January 1, 1999, and a 17–9 victory over Stanford on January 1, 2000, Wisconsin became the first Big Ten school in history to win the Rose Bowl in back-to-back seasons.
  • On January 1, 2013, Barry Alvarez came out of retirement to coach a game: a 20–14 loss to Stanford in the Rose Bowl.
  • Montee Ball became the first player to score touchdowns and rush for 100+ yards in three different Rose Bowls, the final one being on January 1, 2013.
  • The most recent Rose Bowl game for Bucky was in 2013 (Stanford 20–Wisconsin 14).
  • This will be the Badgers’ 31st bowl appearance in school history.
