Meeting to explain West Johnson Street project
A public informational meeting concerning the West Johnson Street reconstruction project will be held on Monday, March 10, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Union South. A formal presentation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Representatives from the City of Madison Engineering Department and the engineering consulting firm of MSA Professional Services, Inc. will explain the exhibits and answer questions.
The project is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 24, and is expected to be completed in November. It involves the reconstruction of West Johnson from Randall Avenue to State Street. Improvements include repaving the roadway, new curbs, gutters, sidewalks and terrace landscaping, and the replacement of storm sewers, sanitary sewers and water mains. Most of West Johnson will be closed to traffic in early June. Drivers will be rerouted to West Dayton Street, which will be a one-way street eastbound until the project is completed.
University officials have been working closely with city representatives on such issues as maintaining access to university parking lots along the route and rerouting campus buses. The project will also affect traffic routes for visitors to the campus, including Badger sports fans going to the Kohl Center and stadium area.
