Grants available to collaborating student organizations

January 30, 2003 By Jonathan Zarov

University Health Services (UHS) and the Dean of Students Office are both offering grant money to help encourage registered student organizations to collaborate and interact on projects beneficial to the university community.

UHS administers Collaboration Mini-Grants to help fund collaborative projects. The Dean of Students Office provides Fostering Student Interaction Awards to reward successful coalitions and sustained relationships across diverse groups.

UHS Collaboration Mini-Grants range from $100 to $300. Applications are due Feb. 14 and decisions will be announced Feb. 21. Student organizations are encouraged to work with groups with whom they do not interact on a regular basis.

UHS officials believe the health of a community is strengthened by connections between individuals and groups, thus collaboration is vital in creating a healthier campus. For more information and an application, contact Gwen Drury at 263-2535, email her at gdrury@wisc.edu.

Student organizations are also eligible for Fostering Student Interaction Awards from the Dean of Students Office and the Student Organization Office. These awards are given to organizations that have created coalitions, encouraged interactions and connected in new and different ways. Applications are due March 1. Stop by the Student Organization Office, 2nd floor at the Red Gym, or call 263-0365.

Successfully funded collaborative projects have included a sexual assault poster project for Welcome Week put together by PAVE (Preventing Assault Victim Empowerment) and Gamma Phi Beta sorority; a project to improve other student organizations’ web sites by the Association of Information Systems Professionals and the Graphic Design Club; and a program called “From Swastika to Jim Crow” presented by Hillel and the Black Graduate and Professional Student Association.
