Accomplished cellist, pianist to perform at Union Theater
Carter Brey, cello, and Christopher O’Riley, piano, will present an exciting program of cello sonatas on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 8 p.m. in the Wisconsin Union Theater.
Works to be performed include Prokofiev’s Sonata in C Major, Op. 119, as well as sonatas for cello and piano by Carter and Poulenc. This collaboration of two accomplished solo musicians results in what the San Diego Tribune has called “a worthy partnership — energetic, committed and musically opinionated.”
Brey has been principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic since 1996. O’Riley hosts “From the Top,” a weekly program on Public Radio International that showcases the vibrant performances and personalities of young musicians.
Their Madison performance is sponsored by the Wisconsin Union Directorate Performing Arts Committee, with additional support from the Norman Bassett Foundation and promotional support from Wisconsin Public Radio.
Tickets: $30, $28 for Union members and $14 for UW–Madison students; Union Theater Box Office or 262-2201.
Parallel Press releases Feraca poetry collection
Madison-area poet, essayist and public radio host Jean Feraca examines the complexities of relationships, and the illness and death of her mother in a recently published collection of poetry, “Rendered into Paradise.”
The collection, published by the UW–Madison Libraries’ Parallel Press, is Feraca’s first in 10 years. She says this collection is a personal triumph and is pleased that the reader can connect with the imagery and feelings she emotes.
Feraca is Wisconsin Public Radio’s host and co-producer of the nationally recognized call-in news and cultural affairs program, “Conversations with Jean Feraca.” Her commentaries are also heard on Wisconsin Public Radio’s internationally syndicated “To the Best of Our Knowledge.”
Feraca has published two other books of poetry, and her writings have been anthologized in “The Dream Book,” which won the American Book Award in l986.
She is currently working on a book about her experiences as a radio talk-show host.
Each Parallel Press chapbook is $10; an annual subscription for six is $50. Orders may be sent to: The Parallel Press, 372 Memorial Library.
