Spear retires as ISS director
Judy Brodd has been named interim director of International Student Services, replacing Sheila Spear, who retired on Oct. 15 after leading the office since 1994.
Spear, a native of Cheddar, Great Britain, plans to spend more time working in the community during her retirement. She helped manage the office through a time of growth and transition, including a move into its current Red Gym offices, steadily increasing numbers of international students and, most recently, new visa regulations for international students.
Brodd, who joined ISS in 2001, previously served as associate director. Before coming to Madison, she spent 15 years in the Office of International Studies and Programs at UW-Milwaukee. Brodd has an undergraduate degree in international relations and a master’s degree in urban affairs, both from UWM.
Papa Demba Sarr has been named interim associate director.
