Students: Donate more, discard less
Students will find out how to lighten their loads and help the community today, Aug. 12, by donating their extra food, clothes and household items to local agencies that serve families in need.
“Moving? Be Enlightened” 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Library Mall, provides information on how to responsibly discard and recycle their trash.
Library Mall will be transformed into a student apartment, with the addition of old furniture, moving boxes and a sound system. Music will be provided by student radio station WSUM 91.7 FM.
“The large number of students who move in mid-August usually create a mess,” says Katherine Loving, civic engagement coordinator for University Health Services. “We formed a campus-community coalition to help students move responsibly. We want to make it easier for students to be good neighbors and give to the community.”
The Moving Day Coalition is made up of the Morgridge Center for Public Service, Wisconsin Union Directorate Community Service Committee, College of Letters and Science Honors Program, University Health Services, and WSUM Radio; City of Madison; Community Action Coalition; Easter Seals; St. Vincent de Paul; St. Paul’s Catholic Center Conference; and others.
