Program seeks to assist women business owners

The School of Business is recruiting a third class of established women business owners to participate in a groundbreaking program that creates volunteer advisory panels to help them grow their businesses.

LEAP (Launching Entrepreneurial Advisory Panels) is designed to serve woman entrepreneurs who have been in business more than three years, either have or are planning to have employees, and are undertaking changes or improvements in their businesses.

Advisors, who volunteer to serve for one year, are drawn from the business, professional and academic communities. At the present time, over 60 men and women are serving as LEAP advisors, working with the 15 businesses currently enrolled in the program since its inception in June 2001.

The program is administered by the school’s Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship in partnership with the Women in Business Council. It is currently supported by a one-year Coleman Foundation grant, with additional sponsors being sought for the program’s continuation.
