Get Social: Lady Liberty returns

Nothing spruces up a frozen lake like a life-size replica of the top of the Statue of Liberty.

The Wisconsin Union brought the Statue of Liberty tradition back to Lake Mendota last weekend with a to-scale, inflatable replica of the Statue’s head, arm and torch. The Statue of Liberty tradition began with a prank in 1979 by the Pail and Shovel Party, fulfilling a campaign promise they made while seeking election to the Wisconsin Student Association, to sink the Statue of Liberty in Lake Mendota.
