Forum to focus on Plan 2008
The second annual Plan 2008 Campus Forum will be held Tuesday, May 7, from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Memorial Union. Faculty, staff, students and members of the community are invited to attend the event, which will focus on the university’s response to Plan 2008, the UW System’s initiative to increase faculty, staff and student diversity on all UW campuses.

The forum will begin with a resource fair of UW–Madison programs and initiatives modeling best practices for achieving Plan 2008 goals. Later sessions will feature panel discussions with deans and directors about diversity plans, and challenges in schools, colleges and administrative divisions. Primates go national
The Wisconsin Regional Primate Research Center has dropped the “Regional” in its name. The facility, founded in 1961, is now the National Primate Research Center, or Wisconsin Primate Research Center. The National Institutes of Health-National Center for Research Resources changed its eight center names this spring to reflect broader scope for primate biomedical research activities.

Students’ business plan wins
A team of students walked away April 26 with the top prize of $10,000 for a technology-based business plan. The students were competing in the G. Steven Burrill Technology Business Plan Competition, which seeks to encourage entrepreneurial activity and interaction between science and business students at UW–Madison. Winners of the $10,000 grand prize were Garima Goel, an MBA student, and Chung Hoon Lee, a Ph.D. student in electrical engineering. Their plan was for LifeSonics, a company developing electronic pulmonary drug-delivery products. The firm believes its technology will outperform pills and injections for certain types of medical treatment.

Vet Med reaccredited
The School of Veterinary Medicine received praise from a national review committee that has maintained the school’s accreditation following an intensive review process. The American Veterinary Medical Association’s Council on Education approved full accreditation status for the maximum period of seven years. The council complimented the school’s program, noting the quality of support to students, the dairy teaching herd, the school’s efforts in encouraging diversity in the student body, the positive and productive working environment in the school, responsiveness to student feedback and the excellence of the school’s research.
