Singer to lead Campus Information and Visitor Center

April 12, 2002

Wren Singer has been named director of the Campus Information and Visitor Center.

CIVC was formed in January when the Office of Visitor Services merged with part of the Campus Information, Assistance and Orientation office, and became part of the chancellor’s office.

Noel Radomski, policy and planning analyst in the chancellor’s office, had temporarily directed the Office of Visitor Services and later CIVC since 1998. He returned to his normal duties in the chancellor’s office once Singer was promoted from CIVC associate director to her new post.

CIVC serves as an information source for all faculty, staff, students and campus visitors. The office also provides tours and coordinates visits for prospective students, field trip participants and other visitors. Those duties had been divided between two offices.

In its role as an information source, CIVC serves about 500,000 clients each year. The visitor center in the Red Gym and other visitor programs serve about 30,000 annually.

“We want to be viewed as the front door to campus for those coming here for the first time,” Singer says. “We also want current students, faculty and staff to come to us for their information needs.”

Singer had been CIVC’s associate director since the office was created in January, previously serving as assistant director of the Office of Visitor Services since July 1998. Singer was the acting director of Student Orientation Programs from 1995-98. She is a strategic planning and process improvement facilitator in the Office of Quality Improvement. Her salary is $49,975.ett@facstaff.wisc.edu
