Marmosets move into new home

The Wisconsin Regional Primate Research has opened a new home for its marmoset monkeys in the center’s addition.

The Callithrix jacchus family, including two infants, was transferred to its new spacious quarters last month. The animals are energetically exploring their new surroundings, framed by Wisconsin artist Bruce Howdle’s 35-foot-long ceramic rhesus monkey mural in the new main lobby.

The marmoset display’s opening represents the near-final touch on the building addition.

Most staff and animals have moved into the $9.4 million addition. Construction began in 1998.

Though not installed yet, there will be a touch screen computer near the marmosets so visitors can learn about these intriguing animals while looking at them.
