Zeichner receives national education award
Kenneth Zeichner, UW–Madison School of Education associate dean, has been recognized with an American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education Margaret B. Lindsey Award at the association’s 54th annual meeting in New York City.
The Margaret Lindsey Award for Distinguished Research recognizes an individual in mid-career whose research during the last decade has had a major impact on the field of teacher education.
Zeichner is a leading scholar of teacher education, analyzing the processes and outcomes of innovative practices. He is internationally known, with strong commitments to programs in Africa and South Africa, as well as in the United States and Europe. He spends many hours in professional development schools working with teachers, prospective teachers, principals and pupils.
Says Charles Read, dean of the School of Education: “Honoring Ken Zeichner is honoring the very best in teacher education, recognizing — for a change — the extraordinary work of those who are preparing the next generation of teachers.”
The American Association of College’s for Teacher Education is a national, voluntary association of colleges and universities with undergraduate or graduate programs to prepare professional educators. The 750-AACTE-member institutions graduate approximately 90 percent of the nation’s new teachers and other educators each year.
