Lockwood named Iowa registrar
Associate Registrar Larry Lockwood, a 22-year veteran of the University of Wisconsin–Madison Registrar’s Office, will leave in mid-May to become registrar at the University of Iowa.
“It’s going to be difficult to leave, because I’ve made an awful lot of friends here and watched this campus grow,” says Lockwood. “I have a sense of sadness, but also a lot of excitement for a new task and a new opportunity.”
As an associate registrar since 1996, Lockwood has been involved in many important developments in the office, including the implementation of touch-tone registration and the ISIS student records system.
Lockwood says he’s also proud of spearheading a renovation of the registrar’s customer service center in the Peterson Building, helping develop electronic methods for students to get information and improving communications among the office staff.
At UW–Madison, Lockwood has also served on a large number of advisory and committees including the Provost’s Advisory Council, the University Academic Planning Council, the Madison Academic Staff Association, the Academic Staff Executive Committee and the Academic Staff Public Representation Organization.
Before officially becoming a member of the Registrar’s Office, he worked closely with the office for five years as a government counselor for students returning from the Vietnam War.
As Iowa registrar, Lockwood will oversee student academic records, course registration and scheduling, the student information system and university commencements, among other duties.
“We are confident that Larry Lockwood will provide the leadership necessary to ensure that the office of the registrar continues to be among the best in the nation,” says Lola Lopes, Iowa’s associate provost for undergraduate education.
Lockwood holds an undergraduate degree in history and a master’s in education, both from the UW-Whitewater. His University of Iowa salary will be $104,000.
The UW–Madison Registrar’s Office oversees the creation and maintenance of permanent student academic records. In addition, it handles the production of course schedules, student registration, grades, transcripts and fees.
