Lunsway to lead Transportation Services
UW–Madison has selected Lance L. Lunsway as its new director of Transportation Services.
Lunsway, 34, replaces Lori Kay, who left Transportation Services July 23 to become a transportation consultant for the university.
Michael Lovejoy, current director of business and staff services at Facilities Planning and Management, has served as interim director since Kay left. He will continue as interim director until Lunsway begins work Thursday, Feb. 28.
“The opportunity to join a university with the reputation that UW–Madison has, is truly a privilege,” Lunsway says. “I look forward to joining a great team at Transportation Services.”
Lunsway was among four finalists selected by a search and screen committee that was chaired by Frank Kooistra, associate dean in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and included faculty, academic and classified staff, and students.
Lunsway has served as parking/transportation manager at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., for more than four years. At Arizona State, Lunsway handles personnel issues, budgeting, and short and long-range planning for a division that oversees 20,000 parking spaces, as compared to about 12,600 on the UW–Madison campus.
Lunsway also recently received his certified administrator of public parking certification from the International Parking Institute at the University of Virginia.
Before joining Arizona State, Lunsway spent six years as the operations manager for parking services and one year as a parking control officer at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kansas State University and an associate’s degree in business from Colby Community College in Colby, Kan.
“UW-Madison presents a different set of challenges for me. I feel my many years of experience in this field will lead to some positive changes on campus,” Lunsway says.
The director of Transportation Services oversees all areas of parking and parking alternatives, bus service arrangements with Madison Metro, fleet cars, maintenance and construction, and Nighttime SAFE Rides.
In addition, Lunsway will oversee several changes in Transportation Services during the next year, including some major construction projects that will limit parking on some portions of the UW–Madison campus.
“We feel we’ve selected someone who can really help commuters deal with some of the changes that will come about as this university undergoes expansion,” Lovejoy says.
Lunsway’s salary will be $86,000.
