February highlights international opportunities

February 2, 2002 By Helen Capellaro

As the number of students aspiring to study, work or travel abroad grows each year, the university has many organizations to meet their needs.

February is International Opportunities Month on campus, and 23 organizations are offering a full range of programs to help students take advantage of the existing possibilities for working, studying, volunteering, and/or traveling abroad.

The main kickoff event will be a Global Forum, 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, Morgridge Auditorium, Grainger Hall, 975 University Ave. Sam Taylor, vice president-international of Lands’ End, will present, “So You Want to Work Internationally: Are You Ready?”

Taylor will discuss his international career path, his role at Lands’ End and will advise students on how to best prepare themselves for a global career. He will also discuss how Lands’ End was able to successfully expand its operations into Europe and Asia. Taylor has a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Harvard.

Other events include an International Conversation and Coffee Hour every Friday, noon-2 p.m., Union South; a Global Connections International Dance Party in Tripp Commons, 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, and many more events that enable students to gain more information on programs and meet students from other cultures. Forums are scheduled on overseas internships, careers in the foreign service, preparing for an international career and more.

The events are coordinated by the Center for International Business Education and Research at the School of Business in cooperation with departments and organizations across campus.
