No-fly zone requested, university police make plans
UW–Madison Chancellor John Wiley has requested a no-fly zone over Camp Randall when the Badgers resume play Saturday, Sept. 29.
“I believe in the aftermath of our national tragedy that it would be extremely upsetting to people seated in Camp Randall Stadium to witness aircraft circulating the stadium within a minimal distance of 500 to 1,000 feet,” said Wiley.
In addition, University Police are assessing whether any changes will be implemented that will affect fans attending the rescheduled game against Western Kentucky. “I want to reassure people that there is significant preparation and coordination before each of our home football games,” said University Police Chief Susan Riseling. “The tragic events of last week will be factored in accordingly and will be a priority as we move forward.”
Riseling said she and her staff also will assess games that take place this week at the collegiate and professional levels before making any final decisions for Camp Randall.
“Any changes requiring the cooperation of our Badger fans will be communicated next week in a timely fashion,” Riseling said.
The game against Western Kentucky was postponed from Sept. 15, following the tragic events at the World Trade Center in New York and Washington on Sept. 11.
