UW-Madison cancels Friday afternoon classes
The university will cancel classes beginning at noon Friday, Sept. 14, in concert with the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance in light of this week’s tragic events.
As part of the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, a service is being planned for Library Mall at 12:30 p.m. Friday. The program will be co-hosted by UW–Madison and Dane County Board of Supervisors. Students, faculty, staff and the general public are invited to attend. For updates and details, please see this Web site.
University officials encourage employing units to allow employees to attend the 12:30 p.m. event without taking personal or vacation time.
The university will continue to operate all day Friday and, in particular, student services will be in full operation to assist those seeking support or counseling.
The Dean of Students Office may be contacted, 263-5700, for appropriate referrals. For help dealing with the aftermath of Tuesday’s events, consider contacting Counseling and Consultation Services, 905 University Ave., (608) 265-5600. The service, run by University Health Services, is open 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p. m. Wednesday.
