Allow extra time near stadium before games
Athletic Department officials say football fans should allow extra time to navigate the construction areas surrounding Camp Randall Stadium.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for games this season. Several areas north of the stadium have potential to be highly congested, and pedestrian traffic is being routed to Breese Terrace and Randall Avenue. Gates will open 90 minutes ahead of game time this season to assist patrons in accessing the stadium.

Camp Randall Stadium is undergoing the most comprehensive renovation and expansion project in its history over the next three years. Construction has begun on the underground utilities at the northeast corner of the stadium next to the McClain Center. As a result, no pedestrian traffic will be permitted to come from Campus Drive, University Avenue or Engineering Drive.

Surplus gear on sale
The Surplus With A Purpose program will hold a special sale of surplus athletics gear 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. The public event will be at SWAP Shop, the surplus property store, 2102 Wright St.

WARF transferred
After 30 years, ownership of the WARF building — the only privately held property at the university constructed for university purposes — has been transferred to the university.

Until July, the 14-story building at the southwest corner of Walnut Street and Observatory Drive had been owned and maintained by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, a private, nonprofit organization that manages the intellectual property of UW–Madison. In the future, Medical School programs will move into the building as part of the HealthStar expansion of facilities for the university’s medical research and services. WARF will continue to occupy its original space as well as expand to the 12th floor.

New digs for Press
The University of Wisconsin Press has moved closer to the heart of campus. The UW Press staff of about 26 has moved to new headquarters at 1930 Monroe St. from Pflaum Road, where the group had leased space since 1997. Director Robert Mandel says the move will help the organization strengthen its relationship with the university. Staff plan an open house later.

Web kiosks debut
Eighteen new “communications kiosks” provide convenient access to the Web for the campus community and visitors. The kiosks, installed and tested this summer, enable campus users to find information on the Internet or use Web-based e-mail without having to go to an office, residence or computer lab. The kiosks are at Memorial Union, Union South, the Red Gym, Southeast Recreation Facility, Shell, Natatorium, School of Music, Social Sciences, Bascom and the McBurney Resource Center.
