Bascom historic tour planned
No books or backpacks are required. Only comfortable shoes and a curiosity for the past are needed to enjoy the Bascom Hill Historic District Guided Campus Walking Tour, 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.
An experienced undergraduate student tour guide will lead visitors among the campus’ oldest buildings and share stories of the university’s first years. The 60-minute tour begins at historic Armory and Gymnasium (better known as the Red Gym), 716 Langdon St.
The tour route winds through Library Mall, over the Park Street bridge and up Bascom Hill to Bascom Hall, down the hill near Science Hall, in front of the Memorial Union and back to the Red Gym. The route includes moderate inclines and is wheelchair accessible.
Reservations are requested. To make a reservation, call (608) 265-9500 by noon, Friday, Aug. 17. Parking may be found in nearby campus or city ramps including the State Street-Campus Ramp near the corner of Lake and State streets and below Helen C. White Hall at the end of Park Street.
The Bascom Hill Historic District tour is sponsored by the UW–Madison Office of Visitor Services. To learn more about this tour and other visit opportunities on campus, call (608) 265-9500.
