Finalists chosen for chief information officer

A search and screen committee has named two finalists for the next chief information officer/vice provost for information technology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

A 16-member search committee chaired by Maria Cancian, professor of public affairs and social work, has selected:

• Lois Brooks, vice provost for information and technology and chief information officer at Oregon State University
• Jenn Stringer, chief academic technology officer and assistant vice chancellor for teaching and learning, University of California, Berkeley

The chosen candidate will succeed Michael Lehman, who was named interim chief information officer in February 2017 following the retirement of Bruce Maas.

The VP-CIO is responsible for working with the UW–Madison community to develop and implement strategic IT plans and managing key campus IT resources and services.

The VP-CIO will manage the Division of Information Technology (DoIT), the central IT organization for campus. DoIT has an operating budget of about $100 million, with more than 600 full-time staff and 200 student staff. The division provides core IT infrastructure services, develops and implements applications (including major administrative applications for both UW–Madison and the UW System) and plays a major role in managing the statewide higher education network.

Public presentations will be in the Biotechnology Center Auditorium, 425 Henry Mall, Room 1111, with Stringer on April 19 from 1 to 2:15 p.m. and Brooks on April 20 from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m.

Employees may attend the talks in pay status, with supervisor permission, if the presentations fall during normal work hours. During these presentations, the finalists have been invited to lay out their vision for the role.
