Summer WUD coordinators needed

March 19, 2001

Now is the time for students to apply for one of five volunteer positions as a summer coordinator for the Wisconsin Union Directorate.

Coordinators manage and promote more than 200 summer events; develop fall events in conjunction with your committee and incoming WUD members; earn a monthly stipend and potential academic credit; and, receive valuable experience that looks great on a resume.

Graduate as well as undergraduate students are eligible. Pick up application materials in 507 Memorial Union; return completed applications and two reference letters by Thursday, April 5.

The five positions:

  • The summer art and events coordinator manages the art gallery program, including installation of exhibitions and implementation of receptions and gallery talks. Additionally, this coordinator implements and assists with other Directorate programs such as International Conversation & Coffee Hour, Alternative Breaks trips, Community Service events and the Distinguished Lecture Series.
  • The summer film coordinator manages Lakeside Cinema and other special film events such as free campus “sneak previews” of major studio releases.
  • Two summer music coordinators implement Open Mic (Wednesdays), Behind the Beat (Friday afternoons), Terrace Music (Thursday through Saturday nights) and any additional programs.
  • The MU Bash coordinator manages the MU Bash, a program that overtakes all spaces within Memorial Union, to showcase WUD programs and to recruit student volunteers to the WUD committees. Previous activities have ranged from martial arts demonstrations to pottery, music events to henna tattoos, and climbing walls to mural making. MU Bash is scheduled 9 p.m.-2 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 1

Summer coordinators are expected to commit a range of 10-20 hours per week to their positions and in return receive a stipend equal to the full in-state undergraduate summer session tuition and $20 on Wiscard from May-August to buy food or retail items in the Union buildings. All applicants must plan to enroll in UW–Madison Summer Session or be matriculating students.
