Storytelling festival planned this week

February 14, 2001

Storytellers will speak in both English and their native languages at the fourth annual American Indian Storytelling Festival Thursday and Friday, Feb. 15-16.

The events, sponsored by the American Indian Studies Program and the Folklore Program, will begin at 7 p.m. both nights in Morphy Hall in the Mosse Humanities Building, 455 N. Park St.

The program features storytellers and linguists from Canada, Mexico, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North and South Dakota. During the day, the festival features the Native American Language Preservation Project Conference.

The conference provides a forum for teachers and students of Wisconsin’s Native languages to discuss efforts to keep Native American languages alive in the state.
