Statement on YAF event
The University of Wisconsin–Madison strongly values free speech both in the statement of an idea and in the response to that idea. Our policy is to facilitate both speakers and those who wish to protest in a manner that allows all parties to safely express their First Amendment rights while not infringing on the rights of others.
When a UW–Madison student organization, Young Americans for Freedom, invited Katie Pavlich to lecture on campus, student life staff, university police and others worked to support a successful event, meeting with organizers, planning and providing security. Protestors, if known in advance, are also offered the same opportunity.
We are pleased that tonight’s lecture and demonstration were peaceful and allowed for the expression of a wide range of viewpoints.
