Badgers headed to Sun Bowl
The university will receive 8,000 tickets for the Sun Bowl scheduled Dec. 29 in El Paso, Texas.
The Wisconsin football team accepted the bowl invitation Nov. 20. “Our team is very excited about the opportunity to extend our bowl streak and participate in the Sun Bowl,” Coach Barry Alvarez says. “You compete all year long for the chance to play an extra game and visit another area of the country. Everyone I’ve talked to that has participated in the Sun Bowl raves about the outstanding hospitality and the rewarding bowl experience in El Paso.”
All UW season ticket holders received a bowl application last month and have a Dec. 1 deadline to receive priority for their bowl ticket order.
Any available tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 8:30 a.m.
Requests from UW–Madison students who want to purchase tickets will be taken Dec. 5-6 online and will be distributed to students beginning Sunday, Dec. 10.
The Sun Bowl generally pits the fifth-place team from the Big Ten Conference against the third-place squad from the Pac-10 Conference. The bowl has a no-repeat rule, which prohibits a school from playing in the game two years in a row. Oregon, the Pac-10’s third-place team this season, participated in last year’s Sun Bowl against Minnesota. The Badgers played the Ducks earlier this season and are scheduled to face Oregon again on Sept. 1.
CBS will televise the bowl game live to a national audience. Kickoff is set for 1:15 p.m. CST in the 51,171-seat Sun Bowl Stadium. The 2000 Badgers, who have a non-conference game Saturday, Nov. 25, at Hawaii, are currently 7-4 overall and finished fifth in the Big Ten with a 4-4 mark.
The Sun Bowl is the fourth-oldest bowl (trailing the Rose, Orange and Sugar) having been staged continuously since 1936.
