The Wisconsin Film Festival is a public program of the UW Arts Institute, featuring four days of independent, world and experimental cinema and speaker programs and seminars.

The “Wisconsin’s Own” competition is supported by the Wisconsin Film Office, while the Student Competition is presented in partnership with the Independent Film and Video Collaborative and Wisconsin Union Directorate Film Committee, both UW–Madison student organizations.

Festival venues will again include the Orpheum Theatre, the Wisconsin Union Directorate Film Committee, the Madison Art Center, and the UW Cinematheque. The newly reopened Majestic Theatre is slated as an additional downtown festival screen.

Last year’s second annual Wisconsin Film Festival featured 70 films and 40 filmmakers and speakers over four days, with an estimated attendance of 12,000. The festival featured the work of 28 filmmakers with Wisconsin ties, both through submissions and by invitation. Local press praised the festival as a “stunning” success, a “star performance,” a “remarkable sophomore year” and “a vital forum for community-unifying art.”
