Policies and Procedures
Conflicts of Interest
No classified employee may solicit or accept from any person or organization, directly or indirectly, money or anything of value if it could reasonably be expected to influence such employee’s official actions or judgment, or could reasonably be considered as a reward for any official action or inaction on the part of the employee. Faculty, limited and academic staff have similar obligations under the UW System and are asked annually to report their outside activities.
TAA Collective Bargaining Agreement
The collective bargaining agreement between the Teaching Assistants’ Association (TAA) and the State of Wisconsin was signed into law by the governor on April 7. The terms and conditions of that Agreement are now in effect. While hard copies of the agreement will not be available until later this spring, the contract will be posted on the University’s Office of Human Resources web site, http://wiscinfo.doit.wisc.edu/ohr/ and on the TAA’s web site, http://www.taa-madison.org/.
The new contract provides for lump sum payments for TAs and PAs who had appointments in October, 1999. TAs and PAs who were on an academic year (C Basis) or calendar year (A Basis) appointment will receive a lump sum payment of $325, prorated by the appointment level. PAs (including graders) who were paid on an hourly (H Basis) rate will receive a lump sum of $100 (not prorated). These lump sum amounts will be paid at the same time that the April paychecks are available around May 1.
In addition, there is a retroactive payment for TAs (back to the start of the current spring semester) and PAs (back to Jan. 1, 2000). These payments will also be paid in conjunction with the April paychecks, payable on approximately May 1. The retroactive payments apply to all TAs who have had appointments anytime during the spring semester and all PAs (including graders) who have had appointments anytime since Jan. 1.
The regular April paychecks should have reflected the new rates for TAs, PAs, and graders. A second check will be paid which combines the retro payments and the lump sum payment (if applicable).
