Microsoft official to dedicate computer graphics lab

February 16, 2000

Microsoft’s University Relations Manager John Spencer will dedicate the art department’s new Computer Graphics and Visualization Learning Laboratory on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Spencer will be joined in the dedication by members of the UW Foundation and the School of Education, which houses the Art Department.

Microsoft provided more than $77,000 worth of high-end equipment for the lab. “The Computer Graphics and Visualization Learning Laboratory embodies the excitement generated by a university and business partnership,” says School of Education Dean Charles Read.

Combining art and technology at a very sophisticated level, the new facility will enable students to create “Toy Story”-caliber animations and computer-generated graphics.

The dedication and reception will take place at 3:30 in 6421 Humanities, 455 N. Park St. Following the dedication, art professor George Cramer and his students will demonstrate the new technology. For more information, contact Judy Holt at (608) 265-7875; jholt@education.wisc.edu.
