FCC executive to talk in Madison
The Wisconsin Public Utility Institute of the School of Business will host a public talk by Federal Communications Commission commissioner Harold W. Furchtgott-Roth at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18.
His talk, “The Transition to Competition in the Telecommunications Industry,” will examine the shift in the telecommunications industry from today’s partial regulation to full competition in the future.
Furchtgott-Roth has been an FCC commissioner since 1997. Prior to that, he was chief economist for the U.S. House Committee on Commerce. He was senior economist for Economists Inc. from 1988-1995, and served as a research analyst for the Center for Naval Analyses.
Born in Knoxville, Tenn., Furchtgott-Roth holds a degree in economics from MIT and a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford.
His talk will be in Room 1100, Morgridge Auditorium, Grainger Hall, 975 University Ave. The free event is open to the public. To register, call the WPUI, (608) 263-4180, by Jan. 11.
