Sesquicentennial Summer Celebration traffic hints
Visitors heading to campus for the Sesquicentennial Summer Celebration can park free in campus lots (Saturday from 7 p.m. and all day Sunday) and take free shuttle buses to the major event locations on Sunday.
The shuttles will be in service until 9 p.m. that day. A map showing the bus routes can be found in the complete schedule of events available at several locations around Madison.
Transportation Services will ticket any vehicle illegally parked in handicapped parking spaces.
Here is some traffic information that may be helpful to people in terms of making their travel in the campus area easier:
- Motorists are advised to avoid, if at all possible, the North Lake/Langdon Street area. The Original Wisconsin Ducks will be starting their tours from the foot of North Lake Street, and the area is expected to be congested, both in terms of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Drivers should also be aware that West Dayton Street is closed between Murray Street and Park Street due to the Park Street reconstruction project. Eastbound turns on to Dayton from Park Street are prohibited. Johnson Street can be used as an alternate route.
- Breese Terrace between University Avenue and Regent Street will be closed to traffic on Saturday and Sunday (and Monday) because of media preparations for Monday night’s Packer game at Camp Randall. Sesquicentennial Shuttles will be allowed.
- Lot 17 behind the stadium and McClain Center has very limited parking available because a new ramp is currently under construction there.
- Randall Avenue between Dayton Street and University Avenue was re-opened to traffic last week, following a reconstruction project that took most of the summer.
