Ping Chong lecture: Vampires, doppelgangers and aliens
Performance artist Ping Chong will present an illustrated lecture this evening about his work.
The talk is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Margaret H’Doubler Performing Space, Lathrop Hall, 1050 University Ave.
A playwright, theater director and designer, Ping will discuss the evolution of the experimental theater movement since 1970. Included will be images from works ranging from “Angels Of Swedenborg,” “Kind Ness,” “Nosferatu,” his acclaimed “East/West” series and his most recent work, “Kwaidan.”
The talk, sponsored by the Arts Institute, is part of a series of arts and media events on campus marking the 10th Annual Asian-American Heritage Month.
Ping was born in Toronto, Canada and was raised in New York City’s Chinatown. He studied filmmaking and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts and the Pratt Institute. He began his theatrical career as a member of Meredith Monk’s The House Foundation and has worked collaboratively with Monk on a number of major works. He has received an Obie Award, six National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and many other awards.
