Carillon bells will play May 6 in remembrance of UW-Madison students

University of Wisconsin–Madison students who passed away during the summer and this academic year will be remembered during a memorial performance Friday, May 6, at 1 p.m. at the Carillon Tower.

“Each and every one of our students has touched our campus community – they’ve contributed and have made an impact,” said Lori Berquam, vice provost for student life and dean of students. “We want to honor their memory and their time with us.”

Students being remembered this year include: Maria Luz Ali Ajami, Erik Belanger, Brian Davidson, Isabel Neteh Sinome Denning, Alexander Fish, Samantha Gilbert, Nicholas Hawkins, Kenneth Luangpoomyut, Zachary Parkin and Craig Schuff.

“It is so difficult to lose a student, a classmate and colleague, a friend and family member,” Berquam said. “They all will be missed by many.”

Friends, family, faculty and staff are invited to gather at the tower, located on Observatory Drive near the Social Sciences Building.

Carillonneur Lyle Anderson will perform musical fragments, each followed by a minute of silence, to commemorate the life of each student. The memorial tribute will conclude with “Varsity.” The performance is coordinated by the Division of Student Life.

The Carillon Tower is a campus landmark and the cumulative gift of the graduating classes of 1917 to 1926. Anderson has been the campus carillonneur since 1986.
