Sean Curran to be dance artist-in-residence April 5-25

Two guest artists from New York, Sean Curran and Pat Catterson, headline the UW Dance Program‘s spring faculty concert.

“When Passions Prevail” is scheduled April 22-24 at 8 p.m. in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space, Lathrop Hall, 1050 University Ave.

“We are extremely fortunate to have these two talented artists here at the same time,” says concert director and dance professor Claudia Melrose. “Pat has been with us all semester as a guest artist teaching modern dance technique, tap dance, group composition and repertory. Sean is here for a three-week residency with the Dance Program teaching technique, conducting master classes and setting a piece on students for this concert.”

Modern dancer Sean Curran, an Irish step dancer since childhood, will set a work on UW dancers and perform solo.

UW–Madison dance students will perform Catterson’s highly touted group work, “Tian An Men (Peaceful Gate),” which was inspired by the Student Democracy Movement in Beijing, China in 1989.

Dance faculty also will perform. “The concert is filled with highly energetic dancing and deeply moving works,” Melrose says.
