Stem cell meeting to focus on cell aging and maturation
“Stem Cells in the 4th Dimension,” an annual scientific meeting coordinated by the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the BioPharmaceutical Technology Center in Fitchburg, will focus on how time affects stem cells during development, maturation and aging.
At the meeting, leading researchers who investigate the effects of time on stem cells and their offspring will describe mechanisms to study aging in lab dishes and how that affects a number of basic and medical issues. The morning session will review systemic and cell factors that affect maturation, aging and senescence. The afternoon session will focus on lab models of neural, cardiac and pancreatic cells derived from stem cells, and how they can be used in regenerative medicine.
Scientists and clinicians from UW–Madison and a wide range of national research institutions will discuss the variety of mechanisms that regulate aging, advances in treating age-related stem cell dysfunction, and lab and animal models of tissue maturation related to stem cells.
Stem Cells in the 4th Dimension: Mechanisms of Stem Cell Aging and Maturation will be held April 13, 2016 at the BioPharmaceutical Technology Center. More information is available at the center’s website.
