Hands-on learning and connection for military families at Military Kids University
Children and families with a parent, guardian or sibling in the military will visit the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus June 12 to 14 for the third annual Military Kids University. The family camp is co-sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Extension 4-H Youth Development and the UW–Madison Biotechnology Center.
Families will experience campus life and take part in hands-on science and arts activities taught by UW–Madison faculty. As with all Wisconsin 4-H Military Kids programs, youth and adults will have the opportunity to connect with peers who are also experiencing the stresses of deployment or re-entry on a military family.
“The purpose of this camp is to allow children to spend quality time with their parent while exploring a university setting,” says Military Kids University co-director Laura Suprenand. “The camp also serves as a way for both the children and the parents to connect with others who are working through challenges that military families often experience.” A military life consultant will be available for parents on Sunday, June 14.
