Sale offers more than 10,000 books, March 26-29
More than 10,000 books and several thousand LPs will be put on sale in a fund-raiser for the Friends of the UW–Madison Libraries Thursday through Sunday, March 26-29.
This is the fifth semiannual book sale sponsored by the campus library Friends, whose four previous sales have raised a combined total of $46,000.
The materials are donated primarily by UW faculty, staff, students, and area residents. The public sale helps fund an annual lecture series, special purchases for the campus collections, and a visiting scholar support program. In the past year, 14 libraries received $17,000 through a new specialized small-grant program supported by the book sales for campus libraries.
Among the subjects covered by the books to be available: biography, history, fiction, cooking, children’s books, physical and biological sciences, foreign language books, political science, music and art, self-help, reference, business, social sciences, religion, philosophy, and women’s studies. A large collection of classical music scores, LPs, and cassettes also will be for sale.
The sale is open to the public and will be held in room 124 of Memorial Library, 728 State St. A preview sale with a $3 admission fee will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 26.
The regular sale with no admission fee will be held 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday, March 27; 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, March 28; and 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday, March 29. The Sunday sale will be a $1-a-bag “bring your own bag” sale.
