Wisconsin has numbers in federal budget talks

No fewer than three members of Wisconsin’s Congressional delegation are among 29 representatives and senators tasked with resolving differences between the two houses on the federal budget.
Rep. Paul Ryan of Janesville will serve as co-chair of the Budget Conference Committee, along with Sen. Patty Murray of Washington. Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Sen. Ron Johnson will also serve on the committee, which will try to reach a budget compromise by Dec. 13.
Baldwin visited UW–Madison Tuesday, touring bacteriologist Cameron Currie’s lab and discussing the federal funding landscape with researchers from around the university.
Chancellor Rebecca Blank extended invitations to all three legislators, welcoming them to campus to talk about federal investment in scientific research and the role public university laboratories play in a strong economy — issues taken up in a letter to Congress signed by Blank and more than 200 other college and university leaders.
