Ironman Wisconsin will affect campus traffic on Sunday, Sept. 9

Ironman Wisconsin will take place Sunday, Sept. 9 and the event’s running course involves several campus and city streets as well as the university’s Howard Temin Lakeshore Path.

In the campus area, the runners will be using State Street, North Park Street to the Lakeshore Path, Marsh Drive, Observatory Drive, Walnut Street, North Breese Terrace, Spring Street, North Murray Street, West Dayton Street, and Old University Avenue and Monroe Street from the stadium to North Randall Avenue.

The runners will be on campus on Sunday from noon to midnight. The heaviest period for the runners will be from 3-8 p.m., which is when the majority of them are on the course.

The run course is 26.2 miles with two loops.

University police are asking people to use Linden Drive and to stay away from Observatory Drive during the run.

Access will be provided to those persons needing to cross Observatory Drive in order to get to the lakeshore residence halls. Access will be granted when it is safe to cross. The crossings will be at Charter Street, Babcock Drive, Elm Drive and Walnut Street. UW police officers will be stationed at those locations to assist with the crossings.

There will be access to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital via Old University Avenue and Walnut Street to Easterday Lane.

UW police Special Events Lt. Jason Whitney says that people are likely to have a difficult time even getting to campus because of the run coming through the downtown area.
