Chancellor’s statement on the Sikh temple shootings
Here is a statement from University of Wisconsin–Madison Interim Chancellor David Ward on the Sikh temple shootings in Oak Creek:
Ward
As the families of those slain at the Sikh temple in Oak Creek come together to grieve their painful loss today, we at UW–Madison extend our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies.
This senseless and tragic act of violence has no place in a civilized society.
As a campus, we are reminded of the importance of diversity and the rich contributions made by all groups to forging a more inclusive world. As we mourn the unthinkable loss of those killed, and hope for the speedy recovery of those wounded in Oak Creek, we also hope for a more tolerant, respectful world that embraces difference and strives for unity.
In the days ahead, we also hope for healing in the Sikh community and for more understanding across all segments of our society.
