Fifteen workshops on using technology to enhance teaching will be presented during a symposium for faculty next month.
“Teaching and Learning with Technology: Why? When? How?” will be held May 22-23 at Grainger Hall. The workshops, along with discussion groups and general sessions, are designed to introduce and familiarize faculty and instructional staff with how technology can be used in the classroom.
The workshops and presenters are:
- “Thunderstorms in the Classroom: Visualizing in 5 Dimensions,” by Steve Ackerman, atmospheric science
- “Technology in Two Courses: Using the Web for Seminar and Lecture Formats,” by Tom Archdeacon, history
- “Training Language Teachers with CD-ROM,” by High Bishop, English
- “Gems and Other Minerals in a Virtual World,” by Phil Brown, geology
- “The Use of Instructional Technology in Medical Education,” by John Brugge, neurophysiology
- “Teaching Ancient Art on the Net,” by Nick Cahill, art history
- “Teaching Students at a Distance with Audio graphics,” by Jim Davis, engineering
- “Modern Physics Taught Using Modern Techniques,” by Bernice Durand, physics
- “Four Universities, One Class: A Multi-site Video Statistics Class,” by Charles Franklin, political science
- “Missing but Very Much In Action: Teaching and Learning Online,” by Chere Gibson, human ecology
- “Facilitating Conceptual Learning with a Web Resource,” by Joe March, chemistry
- “Teaching Operations Research with Multimedia Support,” by Jim Morris, business
- “Mongo-Sized Intro Courses: Riding Multimedia Waves,” by Caton Roberts, psychology
- “Stop, Look and Listen: Changing from Diadactic to Interactive,” by Pam Scheibel, nursing
- “Using Multimedia Tutorials to Individualize Language Instruction,” by Antonia Schleicher, African languages and literature
