Dahlen Directs Health Sciences Libraries
Karen Hackleman Dahlen became director of the Health Sciences Libraries on May 1. She holds degrees from the Universities of Utah and Oklahoma. Her background includes an internship at the Welch Medical Library of Johns Hopkins University and a leadership apprenticeship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She comes to UW–Madison from University of Illinois-Chicago where she held a joint appointment in medical education and health information management.
Virginia Holtz, the libraries’ director since 1971, stepped down at the end of April. She will remain on staff until July, working on a variety of projects and helping to smooth the transition for the new director. During Holtz’s tenure, the Health Sciences Libraries have adopted new systems affording our users dramatically improved access to health-related information.
