Help Porchlight recover from fire damage

Members of the UW–Madison community are encouraged to help campus neighbor and local transitional housing provider Porchlight recover from a Friday, Jan. 13 fire.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, three people were taken to a hospital and as many as 100 residents were displaced by the fire that reportedly started in a group kitchen Friday night at the building at 306 N. Brooks St. The building is adjacent to Grainger Hall.

Most residents are being allowed back into the facility, but help is needed to recover from damage.

Volunteers can help by coming to the facility by 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14 to help clean up smoke and water damage. Or, cleaning supplies are being accepted all weekend. The organization is also in need of donations of cash, bedding, women’s personal hygiene items and winter clothing.
