Spring Day Features Range of Speakers

TV ratings, gender and communication, and kitty cancer treatments are just a few of the subjects that will come up when the Wisconsin Alumni Association sponsors its 37th annual Spring Day on Campus program May 9 in the Wisconsin Center. The event features continuing education programs, a luncheon, a University Chorus performance and campus tours. The program is open to all. Topics include:

• “Gone With the Wind, the Woman’s Film and the Golden Age of Hollywood,” Tino Balio, professor of communication arts;
• “Isak Dinesen: The Woman and the Mask,” Susan Brantly, associate professor and chair of Scandinavian Studies;
• “Why Treat Companion Animals with Cancer?” David Vail, associate professor of oncology, School of Veterinary Science;
• “What’s Up with TV Ratings?” Joanne Cantor, professor of communication arts;
• “Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus … or Maybe Not,” Mary Anne Fitzpatrick, associate dean of the College of Letters and Science;
• “How Long Will the Boom Continue?” Donald Nichols, professor of economics; and
• “Presidential Health, the Constitution and Transfer of Power,” Irvin Becker, clinical professor of medicine.

Linda Wilson, the seventh president of Radcliffe College, will give the keynote address at 1:20 p.m. in the Wisconsin Union Theater. Wilson received her doctorate from UW–Madison in 1962. A performance by the University Chorus, conducted by Professor of Music Anthony Barresi, will follow Wilson’s address.
